FAQ

Why freshmen in college?
Brian and Kait remember their freshman year in college as being one of the most fascinating of their college experience. In retrospect, they became who they are now during that year. It’s the first year that you’re off on your own for most people, but it’s also a year where your life is more regimented and social than it’s ever been before. (Kait would like to add that this is especially true for only children like herself. This was her first extended experience of having a roommate.)

Why are the bloggers’ identities kept secret?
Brian and Kait want to make sure that their experiment is a little bit more controlled. If everyone knew who these bloggers were, then they would undoubtedly have much different college experiences than other freshmen. Additionally, it allows them to be more candid about their emotions, which is particularly helpful when you’re trying to write a musical based on someone’s blogs. Emotion = key.

Where did you find the bloggers?
Ah, the age-old adage “seek and ye shall find.” Kait and Brian meet teenagers all the time, between the master classes they do, the musical theater writing workshop they lead, and the playwriting classes Kait teaches, they’re surrounded by high school and college students all the time. Additionally, they get lots of emails from fans and have kept in touch with many of the young writers they’ve worked with over the years. They decided to keep things simple with Fresh X by finding some of the best and most interesting writers that they’d met over the years and talking to them about pursuing the project.

Can I be a blogger?
As Kerrigan and Lowdermilk don’t know what the next stage in this project is going to be, no one can say for certain. However, they definitely have sugar plum dreams of continuing and improving this project for several years. Just think how exciting this would be next year when so many more people know about it from the very first day and are anticipating the arrival of the incoming freshmen (and the possible return of the sophomores)!

I’m a college senior and, not to brag, but I’m a really good writer. I should probably be one of the bloggers next year.
The best way to position yourself to become a future blogger is to be 1. still in high school (obviously) 2. a fantastic writer (check!) and 3. regularly comment on Fresh X. Eventually, when the time comes and we decide what the future of Fresh X holds, we will probably be looking for writing samples from seniors in college and you know we’re going to ask members of the site first.

Do you read people’s comments?
Yes! Of course. You are not writing into a void. ChristineCoke, PosterChild, Brian, and Kait all read your responses obsessively. We hope and pray for them. When they do not come, we get sad and think that you don’t like us very much.

What happens when the experiment is over?

Friends, the experiment is never over! You should know better than to ask such a silly question.

But, like, my college is going to be able to do a production eventually, right?
We do assume that there will be a musical of some kind at some point… but of what kind, we really don’t feel we could say. I mean, it’s sort of a musical now. But honestly, we’ll give you information as we have information and right now the first priority is this website.

Will these songs be available on the Kerrigan-Lowdermilk website?
Maybe some day but for now, expect everything Fresh X related to be on the Fresh X website. Why? Because this is where all the cool kids are!

I actually stumbled on this when I was trying to find the sheet music to “Run Away with Me.” Can you tell me where to get that?
Okay, okay. www.kerrigan-lowdermilk.com
